چکیده
In this paper, the authors break down elements of what it means to be an analytical chemist expose underlying knowledge structures that contribute specialist contextual expertise. An appreciation structure provides first step in designing ways scaffold student development We have identified two critical gaps need bridged for students achieve this: between complementary networked can impede high level understanding (the gap intrinsic and shared fundamentals Analytical Chemistry), networks chains practice professional theory–practice gap). hypothesize link these which they may exploited within curriculum promote expertise─where are no longer problematic. The role threshold concepts forming bridges across is explored here. This represents a key point pedagogical content teachers Chemistry.

Problems in the Teaching of Analytical Chemistry
Because of the nature of analytical chemistry, those teaching it tend to be much more pragmatic in their approach than their colleagues in other branches of chemistry are, in designing lecture courses. Thus the main emphasis is on the employment of theory for attaining severely practical ends, rather than on theory for its own sake and interest. Further, because analytical chemistry utilizes an...

متن کاملThreshold Concepts in Chemistry: The Critical Role of Implicit Schemas
Threshold concepts are conceived as cognitive portals to new and previously inaccessible ways of thinking in a domain. They are transformative, integrative, irreversible, and troublesome concepts that open the door to highly productive ways of thinking in a discipline. Mastering threshold concepts in chemistry demands the construction of diverse cognitive elements, including implicit schemas th...
